Planting the winter crops

  It's time to change the crops and rotate the gardens for winter!

Steve showed us how to lay out the seeds and seedlings and we used the compost from our heap to add goodness into the soil.

This time we will have beans and kale, onions and carrots and the potatoes are still going strong.

Catholic Interschool Swimming

On Wednesday 11^th March 2015 St Joseph’s hosted an Interschool Swimming competition at the Matamata Town Pools for 16 Catholic Schools from around the Hamilton Diocese. We were blessed with beautiful weather and a wonderful day was had by all. There were 151 children competing in the various events and there were some very tight finishes for some of the races.

St Joseph’s had 3 children who made the finals of their races:

•  Jackson Donderwinkel – 8 yr old boys backstroke.
• Esther James – 8 yr old girls freestyle and breaststroke
• Zanthie Thomas for 8yr old girls breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle

The Magic Tree Book

A brave pirate, a snooty fox, an excitable dog, a sleepy lion, a kind washer-woman and an i-pad “freak” are the main characters in St Joseph Catholic School’s latest production, “The Magic Tree Book”. These characters will be recognised from well-known NZ stories by authors Joy Cowley, Gavin Bishop, Margaret Mahy and Lynley Dodd.

The story was written by Mrs Jemma Van Eijk and is about the importance of keeping a town library open even though children are always playing on their ipads rather than reading books.

All of the students are involved in the show and have been working hard dancing, singing as well as painting props. Three exciting shows are being held at St Joseph’s School hall starting Monday 15^th September until Wednesday 17^th September at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, primary/intermediate students $5 and pre-schoolers are free. You can pick them up from the school office or there will be some available at the door. It’s going to be an amazing show – we hope you will come along to see!
